Inspired by landscape artists such as George Inness, specifically his work entitled The Lackawanna Valley, this piece attempts to paint not the landscape but the atmosphere upon it. In the sprit of Tonalism, a soft, limited color palette creates atmospheric distance while still maintaining the vibrancy of the fall landscape. I have always been intrigued by fog and the way it creates both depth and distortion, mystery and calm. In this piece, I wanted the viewer to have an experience that evoked the same.
